The University of Brest (UBO) has co-founded in 2019, with several international partners, the #VirtualBlueDecade initiative with the objective of making scientific information and high-level discussions around ocean-climate-biodiversity themes accessible. By creating a virtual platform, the objective was two-fold: to create links between communities of ocean practitioners (researchers, students, NGOs, mediators… from North to South, from East to West!) and to share information with the largest audience possible, inclusively. Some knowledge to encourage commitment and action in favor of the sustainable development goals.
For the COP26, #VirtualBlueDecade is working alongside the GOF, Global Ocean Forum, and other partners, to create a Virtual Ocean Pavilion to bring the voice of the ocean to the climate COP. The #VBD will feature new original content, co-created by the eight partners in the initiative. As the program is not yet finalized, we will update the site very soon with the different events.
In Brest, the UBO offers to bring the COP to you! By creating a forum for students and staff of the University, the objective will be to discuss. A friendly space will give the opportunity to exchange with specialists of the themes debated at the COP, related to climate change, and to understand the major issues of these international negotiations.
This concept is open source and can be replicated in other institutions. If you would like to organize a similar session at your place, do not hesitate to contact us and we will share the concept note as well as the online resources.
